Terms of use
The short version
- Use The Prayer Pen kindly and lawfully.
- What you write is yours.
- Be gracious in study groups. We can remove posts or accounts that harm others.
- The app is offered as is, and it isn't a substitute for professional care.
These terms are an agreement between you and Wilella LLC ("we", "us") for using The Prayer Pen app and prayerpen.app (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
Your account
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your password, passkey and recovery code safe. You must be at least 13 to create an account, and if you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission. Please give us an email address you can reach so you can recover your account.
Your content
Everything you write, draw or add (your journal, prayers, notes and posts) belongs to you. You give us permission to store, sync and display it only as needed to run the Service for you, and, for group posts, to show them to members of that group. We don't claim ownership of your content and don't use it for advertising.
If you turn on end-to-end encryption, only you can unlock your encrypted content. If you lose both your passkey and your recovery code, we can't recover it. If you choose phone-only storage, your content isn't backed up by us.
Study groups
Groups are places for encouragement and prayer. When you post in a group, please:
- be kind, even when you disagree;
- not share other people's private information or prayer requests without their permission;
- not post anything hateful, harassing, sexual, violent or illegal, or spam.
Group owners can delete posts in their group. Anyone can report a post. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Service. That includes trying to access other people's accounts or data, disrupting the Service, reverse engineering it to harm it, or using it to break the law.
Scripture and commentary
The Bible translations and commentary in the app are public domain or used under their published licenses. The Berean Standard Bible is dedicated to the public domain by its publishers. The World English Bible is in the public domain.
Not professional advice
The Prayer Pen supports your devotional life. It isn't medical, mental-health, legal or financial advice. If you're struggling or in crisis, please reach out to a trusted person or a professional. In the United States, you can call or text 988.
Changes and availability
We're a small team and the Service is still growing. Features may change, and we may need to pause or end the Service. If we ever shut it down, we'll give you notice and a way to export your journal.
The core of The Prayer Pen is free. If we add optional paid extras later, we'll make the price and terms clear before you buy anything.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't make warranties of any kind, including that the Service will always be available or free of errors. Please back up anything important (Look back › Back up my journal).
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Wilella LLC isn't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here limits rights you have under the laws where you live that can't be waived.
Changes to these terms
If we update these terms, we'll change the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms.
